The structure of lacrosse in the United States
In the United States, there are roughly 430.000 athletes practicing lacrosse, divided over four variants: men’s field lacrosse, women’s field lacrosse, men’s box lacrosse and mixed lacrosse. The sports is mostly played by student-athletes studying and playing for an American college or university. Both for men and women, lacrosse is played on a varsity and club level. In the United States, lacrosse is facilitated and regulated by National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
