Summer 2017 Bryan Simons will write the next chapter in his still young soccer career. The 22 year old Limburg midfielder will take the plane to Chicago, USA. Simons, currently playing at 3rd Division soccer club EVV Echt, signed a contract at DePaul University men’s soccer team.
The multifunctional midfielder started his soccer career at SC Susteren. Playing in the U15 team he left for the youth academy of professional Dutch soccer club MVV Maastricht, where he played through the remainder of the youth academy. After 4 seasons in Maastricht Simons transferred to the first team of EVV Echt, where he currently plays. EVV Echt plays in newly formed 3rd Division Sunday where the team currently holds a spot in the middle bracket. For Bryan, now is the time to trade Limburg for Chicago, Illinois.
Before Simons signed the contract he was invited by the DePaul men’s soccer coaching staff for an official visit to Chicago. He flew to Chicago to check out all the facilities in this 2-day(!) visit. Bryan also met with the coaching staff, the DePaul athletic director and of course his (new) team mates.
Early August the moment of truth starts for Bryan, when he gets on the plane for the US to join the team of head coach Craig Blazer. Simons will join the Blue Demons team and play together with Stijn van der Slot (former VVSB striker) who made his start in Chicago in August 2016. DePaul plays her competitive games in the tough Big East Conference in NCAA Division 1. Matches in this conference are always attractive for spectators, something Bryan can look forward to. It promises to be a intense time for Bryan, when he starts combining his study with (distant) away games to New York, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Washington, Nebraska and Ohio. On multiple occasions Simons will be making his homework on the airplane next year…
DePaul Blue Demons was able to qualify for the play-offs in the Big East Championship again in the 2016 season. The team of coach Blazer was knocked out on penalty kicks in the quarter final, finishing in the final 8 once again, just like the 2015 season. Next season DePaul Blue Demons wants to look up in the Big East Conference. Coach Blazer expects a lot from his latest signing: ”Bryan is the missing link in our team. This year we managed to reach the play-offs but we came up short in our effort to make a run for the title. With a couple of additions to the squad, including Bryan, we are ready to make a run for the title in 2017.”
KingsTalent wishes Bryan a lot of succes in The States coming season! Of course we will follow him very closely and will report all of his adventures.
